Even thought “Heroes” may not have burned up the airwaves Monday with record ratings, NBC execs can rest assured that their show is being watched. Kinda.
TorrentFreak says that Mininova, which is possibly the biggest P2P tracker in the world, got 10 million downloads in a single day. The increase is presumed to be mostly because of “Heroes”. Other BitTorrent trackers reported similar jumps for Monday.
Stats from TorrentFreak say that, across all BitTorrent sites, the two episodes from “Heroes’” season opening were downloaded well over a million times each.

The big word that NBC has been putting out about “Heroes” in recent weeks is that the new season is so incredibly awesome that it will bring the viewers back who tuned out during its’ second season.
Well, if that’s the case, it’s going to probably take a few more weeks for it to happen. Although it’s not all bad news for the superhero drama, they were definitely overshadowed on their premiere night by another show’s debut.

Today is the official first day of the season for the Big 3 nets. Finally!
NBC: Heroes — The third season opener begins with a special that reviews important plot points (so new folks won’t be completely confused, I assume) and a list of possible suspects in Nate’s shooting. On the show itself, they reveal who the shooter is while Hiro and Ando guard a family secret and Sylar visits Claire.
ABC: Dancing With the Stars — The new season begins and we will learn if Warren Sapp has the moves.

In the weeks before Dragon*Con, there was a big buzz when cast members of “Heroes” were added to the guest list. Namely, Hayden Panettiere and James Kyson Lee. At the time of the posting, I joked on Twitter that I now knew where every man in the Southeast would be the day of Panettiere’s first panel.

Comics Continuum has a preview of the upcoming season of “Heroes” on their site. The show definitely will make the “Heroes” fandom be ready to get the show on the road on Sept. 22, if they weren’t already beyond the waiting point after a writer’s strike-shortened season.
One observation from a non-Heroes-watching observer who is a huge fan of “Doctor Who” — when you think about it, this show is closer to that classic British sci-fi show than anything on American TV at the moment.
