Feist and Blue Rodeo score big at Juno Gala Awards
The 2008 Juno Gala Awards held on April 5, 2008 in Calgary, Alberta was an exclusive ticketed event to present 30 winners with Juno Awards in various categories. Feist is lining up to sweep the Juno Awards, picking up two awards as artist of the year and songwriter of the year. Feist is up for three more awards tonight: single of the year, top
album and best pop album.
Blue Rodeo also came away from last nights ceremony with two awards for adult alternative album of the year and video of the year.
Some other highlights of the night include: Serena Ryder picking up new artist of the year, Jully black for R&B/soul recording of the year, and Finger Eleven picking up rock album of the year for "Wind-Up".
Some highlights for me from the media room come from Jen Gould, who won for children’s album of the year, posing for the cameras from the floor so she could show off her shoes, which she was so happy with.
Also a highlight was Billy Newton-Davis vs. Deadmau5 winning dance recording from the year, and walking into the press room while calling his mom with the news. His exuberance was contagious.
The night included performances from Serena Ryder with Jill Barber with Blue Rodeo, a jazz performance by Richard Underhill and Jorane, and by Piscale Picard.
The red carpet for the April 6 broadcast of the Juno Awards is just starting, and celebrities are filing in for a night of performances and awards. I will be reporting live throughout the night.
