Could ‘Cupid’ Strike Its Target This Time?
Are there any TV addicts out there who doesn’t have bittersweet memories of the 1998-1999 ABC series “Cupid” ? The show starring Jeremy Piven that was sandwiched between his roles on “Ellen” and “Entourage”?

The premise was that a guy named Trevor believed that he had been banished by Zeus from Mount Olympus and had to hook up 100 couples to get back, while trying to avoid his own arrows of love in the process. In the meantime, his friends try to figure out whether he’s actually for real or just a bit wacko.
The critics loved it, but it was pulled before the end of its first season. It was later shown as part of Trio’s “Brilliant But Cancelled” series, and E! Online put it as No. 4 on their list of “The Top 10 Shows Cancelled Before Their Time”.
It’s very rare for a failed show to get a second chance, especially with a whole new cast and crew. But ABC announced Wednesday that a newly-revamped “Cupid” will be part of their 2008-09 lineup.
The creator of the original show, Rob Thomas, will be an executive producer and a writer for the show. But instead of Piven and Paula Marshall, the lead roles will be filled by Bobby Cannavale as Trevor and Sarah Paulson as Claire, Trevor’s would-be love interest.
It’s great that “Cupid” is going to get that chance to make it past its first season again. But another new ABC show also caught my eye. Called “Single With Parents”, it has a top-notch cast headed by Alyssa Milano, Annie Potts, and Beau Ridges.
The plot sounds almost like “Everyone Loves Raymond” without a long-suffering wife — Milano’s character is trying to force her divorced parents to get a life so she can get her own back. But it does sound fun, and it will be great to see if the cast has good chemistry.
